Audition and Level Information

- for the 2017-2018 school year -
All new dance students who wish to be in the dance program must audition. All returning dance students (those already in the program), who do not want to audition for Advanced, will audition during class time and DO NOT need to attend the audition. All dance students, new or returning, who wish to be placed in the Advanced class, must attend the Advanced audition. You may only audition for one level. If you do not make it in that level, you may be placed in a different level that is more appropriate.

Please be aware that not all who audition will be accepted into the program. At the audition we are looking for students with confidence, rhythm, and potential. We also expect students to be well-behaved and serious about the dance program. Students should be sure to follow all instructions in this letter and be properly prepared for the audition. All decisions are final, but if you do not make it this year, and you audition again the following year, you are guaranteed a spot in the program.

The audition for the Beginning level will be on Thursday, June 1st, from 3:30 to 4:45 in room 501 (the dance room) at the high school. A beginning student is one with no prior dance experience. (Related activities such as choir, cheerleading, and gymnastics are not dance experience.) Beginning dance students do not need to wear dance clothes or dances shoes for the audition, but they need to wear work-out type clothes and shoes (no jeans, no skirts). Students will be asked to learn and perform a few simple dance steps.
The audition for Intermediate 1 will be on Thursday, June 1st, from 4:45 to 5:30 in room 501 at the high school. The audition for Intermediate 2 and 3 will be on Thursday, June 1st, from 5:30-6:30 in room 501. The audition for the Advanced level will be on Friday, June 2nd, from 3:30 to 6:00 in room 501. Please be early to give yourself time to warm up and wear form-fitting dance attire. The audition will consist of technical steps across the floor and a combination center floor.
Dance Program placement will be posted on the website on Monday, June 12th. Your counselor will also receive notice of your placement and will adjust your schedule accordingly.
